Checklist for Setting Your 2024 Beauty Business Goals
Ready or not, 2024 is here! If you want to make 2024 the year that you invest in a luxury studio salon, you’ll want to prepare by setting business goals and evaluating your past performance. We understand that taking your business to the next level can feel like a big step (because it is!), but our community is here to help you succeed. If you ever feel unsure as you work through the checklist we share here, don’t hesitate to contact us. We’d love to help you determine if becoming an Indie could be the right fit for you!
Evaluate Your Metrics
Before you can proceed to goal setting, you’ll need to take a look at your most recent numbers. If you haven’t been keeping close tabs on your number of clients, appointments and service tickets, now is a great time to begin! Ideally, you’ll have at least a couple months of metrics on hand to identify where you stand and what you can do to improve.
Use the SMART Goal Strategy
Once you have a better picture of how your business is performing, you can move on to goal setting for the upcoming year. Although it may be tempting to shoot for the stars, you’ll set yourself up for success by implementing the SMART strategy. Never heard of SMART goals? This acronym is super helpful for determining goals that are achievable. SMART stands for:
- Specific (What needs to be accomplished, what steps can you take to get there?)
- Measurable
- Achievable
- Relevant (Why do you want to achieve this goal? How is it important for your business?)
- Time-bound
Based on how your business is currently performing, determine how much you want to grow and the best way to do that so you can set SMART goals. Do you need a few new clients to grow? Do you have a great base of clients but want opportunities to increase your average service ticket through add-on services or a small price increase? Or perhaps you want to sell more retail? Growth can come from one or more sources so be sure to evaluate and be strategic about the way you want to grow. We’re also happy to help you evaluate and plan some goals if you’d like some outside perspective! Our Market Director would be happy to have a business consultation with you to get your year off to a great start.
Ask for Client Feedback
As a beauty pro, you likely take great pride in the relationships that you develop with your clients. As part of the process in developing new goals, it’s helpful to get feedback from the people who power your business. You can approach this several different ways, so it’s up to you how you’d like to reach out. If you want to keep a record on hand for comparison down the road, having written feedback is a plus. Scheduling software often makes it easy to ask for a review, but if you want to take it a step further, you can create a survey to email to your clients (and perhaps offer an incentive for responding). In your survey, ask questions that can tie into your SMART goals and provide opportunities for clients to leave detailed comments.
2024 is quickly approaching, and there’s no time like the New Year to kickstart your goals! We hope the strategies highlighted here will be a useful guide for building a stronger beauty business in the year ahead.
