Examples of Salon Suite Policies to Protect Yourself and Your Clients
If you’re moving to a private or shared salon suite lease from a booth rental or employment at a salon, the freedom to set your own salon suite policies is an exciting but sometimes confusing prospect. Although you carry insurance to protect yourself (and your salon suite lease at Indie includes professional liability insurance for hair stylists), you can (and should) go a step further and create policies that benefit both yourself and your clients. Need some inspiration? Here are a few examples of policies that many of our Indies employ in their beauty business:
Consent to Service
For your protection, consider requiring a consent to service form before you begin a session. There are many templates you can use to create a consent form, and platforms such as GlossGenius allow you to send your forms to clients via email. In the event of contentious circumstances, having signed consent to service documents is an extra layer of protection.
No-Show Policy
Your time is valuable, and you undoubtedly understand how frustrating no-shows are. Although life gets hectic and we all have occasional lapses in memory, it’s important to be upfront about your policies when clients fail to arrive without notifying you. As an Indie, you have total control over how you handle no-shows. Some of our Indies charge the full amount for missed appointments, while others take a more lenient approach and charge a smaller percentage. Whatever you decide, we support you! Just be sure to let your clients know the fee for no shows ahead of time (and check out these tips for minimizing missed appointments).
COVID-19 Safety Precautions
If you’d like to continue implementing safety precautions in response to COVID-19, there are many strategies to consider. As a business owner, you can choose to require masks in your salon or take additional safety measures (such as sending out a COVID-19 questionnaire beforehand).
One Guest Per Visit Policy
Whether you’re trying to limit possible exposures to COVID-19 or simply prefer a quieter space, you may decide to limit occupancy to just one client at a time. When sending out appointment reminders, it’s helpful to include a note about this policy so guests don’t arrive with an unexpected plus-one.
If you’re ready to become your own boss and find a salon suite lease, Indie Salons should be at the top of your tour list. We believe that you know what’s best for your business, so the ball is in your court when it comes to creating your brand. From designing your dream space to setting policies, you have the freedom and capability to define your own way.
