Q: What prompted you to make the move to Indie from booth renting in a salon?
A: When I got my new schedule upon returning to my last salon after the stay-at-home orders, I was working 7:30 am to 11:30 am, two days per week. That was it. We knew we needed our own studio to create a safe environment for our clients and have control over our own schedules.
Q: How long did you three know each other? Why did you choose to make the move with friends and share a studio?
A: Heidi and I met on our first day of beauty school in August 3, 1990. We’ve been chosen family ever since. Amazingly, our first day of opening the new studio was 30 years to the day of meeting: August 3, 2020. I met Jessica while working side by side at Henry’s Salon. To meet Jess is to love Jess!
Q: What’s your favorite part of sharing a larger suite with stylist friends?
A: Knowing we built this together is a great source of pride. We did great compromising and creating a space we all love. Heidi and Jess are both fun and positive and will brighten anyone’s day.
Q: What’s your favorite part of being your own boss?
A: Exactly that–being my own boss! Taking my career into my own hands and being accountable for my success has put my skin in the game. It’s exciting to rise to the occasion.
Q: What’s your favorite part of being at Indie?
A: I love seeing all the creativity around me. Designing our own space was a blast. Having our own suite is amazing but I love being able to hear all the energy that fills Indie’s halls.
Q: What advice do you have for other stylists or beauty industry friends out there who are thinking about making a move and sharing a bigger salon suite?
A: Do it! Gain your freedom without the huge risk. Rise to the occasion, trust in yourself, let your individuality shine and compromise with kindness.
