Tips For Taking Instagram-Worthy Before and After Photos
If you’re ready to become your own boss, you may be on the search for a salon studio rental in Boulder, Denver, or Lone Tree. Although taking ownership of your career is an exciting step, we understand that it can feel a little intimidating, especially at first. If you’re interested in expanding your client base to make the most of your new salon suite, don’t underestimate the power of social media marketing. Instagram is a great platform for showcasing your work and connecting with clients, and before and after photos are among the easiest (and most compelling) types of content to post. Ready to take awesome before and after pics for Insta? Here are our top tips for wowing current and future clients:
Make Sure the Lighting is Perfect
When you’re taking a photo of your fabulous handiwork, be sure that the lighting works in your favor. Luckily, we have great lighting at Indie, so taking a photo in your salon should work well for Instagram purposes. Natural lighting is an excellent choice for both before and after photos, so going outside and finding a neutral background can really let your work shine.
Create a Backdrop for Photos in Your Salon Studio Rental
In addition to the right lighting, an appropriate backdrop is a must for distraction-free photos. Since you’ll take before and after photos to highlight your awesome work, a busy background will distract the eye and detract from the main focus. Many of our Indies have an area in their salon that serves as a backdrop for pics, or use a small pull-down shade in their studios for picture taking. A simple ivory or neutral background is ideal. There are also places inside each of our Indie salons that provide a good neutral background for pics.
Frame the Photos Properly
Even if photography’s not your thing, you can take Instagram-worthy photos with just a few easy tips. When you’re taking both the before and after shots, aim to capture the entirety of the hair (ensuring that you leave some space on all sides). Your client’s head should be centered in the picture, regardless of the angle of the shot. Proper framing is important, since before and after photos are a staple of your social media presence. You’ll want to make sure that these comparisons are relatively uniform to create an appealing image on your profile. Great shots typically include back of the hair, a side angle with the client or you pinching up some of the hair, and a front shot as well. If you are joining us at our Ryan Weeden/Masters of Balayage education event on September 13, photography will be one of the areas covered!
